A Data Management Plan (DMP) will help you to work through how to manage your data. Which data will you collect? How will you process and analyse the data? You will need to describe methods that you plan to use for these activities and document them using a DMP. In addition to the benefits to your study many funders now ask grant applicants to submit a DMP document.

You should plan to revisit the Data Management Plan throughout the project to make any necessary adjustments. Think of this document as something that is evolving and flexible, rather than fixed.

The best way to get started writing a DMP is to begin with a suitable template. Does your funder require a DMP? If so is a template or guidance on the content required provided?
